Donald Eugene Giese entered into eternal rest with his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 11, 2021, in Selby, SD. Don was born on May 9, 1932, to Gerhard and Minnie Beskow Giese in Watertown, SD. He was baptized and confirmed into faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit, SD. Don attended the Lura #5 Country School North of Watertown up through the eighth grade. His first two years of high school were spent at Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge where he met his future wife, Barbara Rabenberg. His last two years of secondary education were completed in Brookings, SD, at the South Dakota School of Agriculture. Don was married on October 3, 1953 to Barbara Rose Rabenberg of Glenham, SD, at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham and then farmed for a brief time north of Watertown. Upon their arrival at their new farm north of Glenham, Donald was drafted by the Army which led them to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas for two years. They then returned to their previous home north of Glenham for six years and then moved to a farm Southwest of Selby for twenty years. He lived out his remaining years in Mobridge and at the Walworth County Care Center.

Throughout his earthly journey Don was a faithful Christian husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved living "the farming life" and keeping up on the latest wheat varieties. As he ventured through life his days were highlighted by the relationships he had formed with friends and family. Although he treasured his time with family and close friends he often let his light shine by making and learning from a new friend who God scattered along his path. Don enjoyed reading and keeping up with the news as he did not go to bed without finishing the day's edition of the Wall Street Journal. In his spare time he added to his coin and stamp collection and enjoyed driving through the country viewing the progress of the season's crops in the fields with his coffee cup on the dash.

Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gerhard and Minnie Giese, sister, Darlene Kolb, wife, Barbara, and son, Ronald.

He is survived by his brother, Darwin Giese, sister, Vonnie Reilly, son, Gery Giese, and daughters, Janine Salverson, Kristi Schnaible, and Amy Sievert. Also blessing his life were eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Th family would like to thank all the caregivers of Mobridge Care Center and the Walworth County Care Center who graciously gave their hearts and time to the health and safety of Donald. You have been a blessing to Donald and Barbara and to our whole family.
