Memorial service for Diane Marshall, 63, of Eagle Butte, SD, will be held at 2:00 p.m. MT, Friday, February 20, 2015, at the United Church of Christ of Eagle Butte under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date. Diane passed away on February 13, 2015, at the Standing Rock Hospital in Ft. Yates, ND.

Diane Marie Marshall was born on March 15, 1951, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD, to Bynum and Doris (Larson) Downing. She attended school at Cheyenne – Eagle Butte and graduated in 1969. She started her career as a candy striper at the hospital in Eagle Butte as a freshman in high school. It was during her early years that she knew she wanted to be a nurse.

She attended college at South Dakota State University and later transferred to the University of North Dakota. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1977 and was one of the first graduates of the RAIN program at UND. She wore many different hats throughout her nursing career, including: nursing instructor at Sitting Bull College in Ft. Yates, ND, a nurse in Dickinson, and a nurse for Indian Health Services for more than 30 years. While at IHS she served as director of nursing as well as a case manager.
She married Keith Marshall and to this union three children were born.

Diane had the biggest heart. She took care of her chronically ill son, Blake, at home for many years until he passed in 1999. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren as well taking care of all the other people she knew. She has touched the lives of so many people.

She enjoyed reading, browsing her IPad, cooking, shopping, watching football and NASCAR, planting flowers every spring, and working on arts and crafts. She was known as a "jack of all trades" and was extremely talented and creative. Most of all she loved spending time snuggling her beloved grandchildren.

We, the family, would like to send a special thank you to the Standing Rock EMS Service, Standing Rock Law Enforcement, and most of all the nursing/medical staff at Standing Rock Indian Health Service.

Diane is survived by her son, Brendon (Donyulita) Marshall of Bismarck, ND; her daughter, Brittany (Henry) Murphy of Ft. Yates; her grandchildren, Abeni Harter, Breydon Marshall, Eli Marshall, Precious Red Legs and Blake Dupris; her sister, Cindy Peterson of Eagle Butte, SD; her nieces, Jade (Delmar) Clown of Mandan, ND, and Savannah (Zach) Peterson of Bismarck; her uncle, Richard Larson of Eagle Butte; her special friends, Merissa Red Bear of Eagle Butte, Deb Miller of Lincoln, NE, Janice Eberhardt of Eagle Butte, and Michelle Kraft of Ft. Yates; and her beloved pet, Thunder.

She was preceded in death by her son, Blake Marshall; her mother, Doris Downing; her grandparents; her special friend, Morris Valandra; and her beloved pet, Stormy.
