Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Desiree M. "LeCompte" Gray age 65 of Ridgeview, SD, will be at 10 AM, MT, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at the Gray Family Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a Rosary service at 7 PM Monday at the church. Desiree passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Gettysburg Hospital.

Desiree was born September 13, 1950 to Leo Casper & Marion "DeWitt" LeCompte. Desiree attended Stephan Indian School, Crow Creek, S.D.; Timber Lake School, Timber Lake, S.D.; Whittier High School, Whittier, CA; Desiree returned to South Dakota and received her High School Diploma from Cheyenne Eagle Butte.
Desiree met the love of her life "John" on July 4th they were united in marriage on February 8, 1974, they made their home in LaPlant, S.D. Desiree worked as a Head Start Teacher, she owned "Desiree's" Clothing and "The Money Bin" Arcade in the Teton Mall in Eagle Butte, S.D., She worked for the US Census Bureau for 10 years, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and retired as the Director of Salazar Payment Program.

Desiree loved to travel in the US, Canada and Mexico. One of her biggest joys was when she took the whole family to Las Vegas, NV for the renewal of her and John's wedding vows, and when she traveled to Washington, DC with her 2 sons. Desiree loved going to her kids and grandkids rodeos, basketball, football, soccer, Lacrosse Games and Wrestling Matches; she was their biggest supporter. Desiree loved watching all the new babies being born in the spring on the ranch especially her baby colts. Desiree had an eye for perfection, and she always could put the best brand on the calves. Desiree was always on the move never took "No" or "I Can't" as an answer from anybody, she pushed her family to always do their best and keep trying. Desiree was always caring for others, she had a heart of gold.

Desiree is survived by her husband, John; sons Steven and John (Shelby); Daughter Cathy (Cole Waters), Grandchildren; Taylor Lipp, Trevor, Braden, Teigan, Phannette, Tyan, JC Gray, Cole Cash Waters, Aria Hawk; 1 Great Grandchild, Kaiya Thomas Gray. Many Adopted Sons, Daughters and grandkids; Mother Marion "DeWitt" LeCompte, sisters Denise (Percy) Estes, Paula (Royce) Boehrs, Jolene (Paul) Lawrence, Leo (Connie) LeCompte; Many Nieces and Nephews.

Desiree is preceded in death by her father Leo Casper LeCompte, grandson Tanner Thomas Gray, Grandparents: John and Lema "Eaglestar" DeWitt, Casper and Virginia (LaPlant) LeCompte.

Pallbearers: Trevor Gray, Teigan Gray, JC Gray, Tyan Gray, Cole Cash Waters, Cole Waters, Luke Claymore, Antoine Arpan, Richard Kills Crow.
