Dennis Palmer was born on February 6, 1947 to James P. and Ida (Schumacher) Palmer in Aberdeen. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. While growing up he spent many summers on the water at Pickerel Lake. Following graduation he attended college at Northern State University until joining the US Army where he served in Vietnam. Upon returning he went back to college at Northern and earned his degree in Elementary Education. On July 27, 1972 Denny married Glenda Goodspeed in Aberdeen. Denny worked as a salesman at Sears in Aberdeen for a number of years before he and Glenda purchased the Mo-Rest Motel in Mobridge in 1982. Denny and Glenda owned and operated the Mo-Rest for over 20 years during that time Denny also ran MoPro Guide Service. Denny spent over 160 days a year on the water guiding clients and doing promotional activities for his sponsors. He also wrote numerous articles for outdoor publications, held seminars, and was a frequent radio and TV guest with his good friend, Tony Dean.

Denny was a well-known outdoorsman whose love for Lake Oahe led him to be a local fishing expert. He was an ambassador of the Mobridge Community and South Dakota. He was on a number of state boards, including the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks Advisory Board and Tony Dean's Acres Memorial Task Force which he was very fond of. Denny also served on the Mobridge School Board and was a member of the Mobridge Chamber.

Denny was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather. He valued his family and the time he was able to spend with them. He enjoyed his outings with his two grandsons and taking his granddaughters to Lucky's to spoil them. Denny cherished the time he was able to spend on the waters of Lake Oahe with his friends.

Denny is survived by his wife, Glenda of Mobridge, daughter, Kelly (Brent) Kemnitz of Mobridge, son, Joe Palmer of Rapid City, grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Kathryn and Elizabeth Kemnitz, father, James P. (Pat) Palmer of Rockport, TX, and two brothers, Bart (Suzanne) Palmer of Bethesda, MD and Jay (Jena) Palmer of Koppel, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
