Obituary

Dennis Swofford, 75, of Mobridge passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital in Mobridge. Arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Dennis was born December 10, 1945 in Vancouver, WA to Mansford and Margaret "Peggy" (Millard) Swofford. He grew up in Yakima, WA and worked at his dad's grocery store. He attended school and played the clarinet in the marching band, then graduated from Selah High School in 1964. Dennis went to Yakima Valley College for Broadcasting Electronic Technician shortly after high school.

Also, he was a radio and television engineer working behind the camera and at the master control in Yakima, Seattle, and Minneapolis stations. Dennis worked in aircraft maintenance for Northwest Airlines and Columbia Helicopters.

In July 1979, Dennis dedicated his life and got baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He believed in a resurrection and that soon one day Jehovah God will bring back all our loved ones who have passed away in death.

Dennis also worked at Franklin High School as a computer tech instructor and had a home business of computer repair.

He started to come to Mobridge, SD in 2005 to help Jehovah's Witnesses cover the territory to share the kingdom hope from the bible. He fell in love with the people and blue sky which made him decide to move here in the summer of 2011. In addition to his volunteer work, Dennis started work as a substitute teacher in Mobridge, Wakpala, and McLaughlin Schools. Also, he was a GED tutor at Sitting Bull College here at the Mobridge campus and in Fort Yates, ND.

In his spare time, Dennis loved to hang out with friends, cook, go camping, play cards, and golf. He can be remembered by his loving personality, likeable humor, was a great cook and delicious food, and enjoyed watching squirrels out his window with his cat, Noir.

Survivors include two sons: Sterling Swofford of Portland, OR and Thorin Swofford of Salem, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
