Dennis L. Senftner, 72, of Las Vegas (formerly of Lacey, WA), died Thursday October 24, at his home. Dennis was born May 19th, 1952, in Mobridge, SD to Lawrence and Alpha (Dupper) Senftner. He grew up on a farm SW of Mound City, SD. He graduated from Herreid High School in the class of 1970.

Dennis was active in sports to include track and field, football, and basketball. He attended college at Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD. He was drafted during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged from the US Army on Dec 21st, 1978. His time in the service was spent working in Intelligence in the European theatre, mostly Germany. On December 28th, 1985 he married Terri Gill from Rapid City, SD. Most of his career was spent in the Civil Service. He worked for the Department of Defense in Germany where he spent 19 years in management of Recreation and Welfare on military bases.

Terri and Dennis had two children, Danielle and Benjamin, who were both born in Germany. He moved back to the United States so his children could attend college, first living in Detroit, Michigan at Selfridge Air Force Base, later to the Rock Island Arsenal in Moline, Illinois, and ultimately moving to Lacey, WA working at Joint Base Lewis-McChord where he retired after 33 years.

The desire to be in a warmer climate in the winter and the allure of being able to golf more often lead to the purchase of a home in Las Vegas, NV. He was a family man. He cherished his children. He enjoyed visiting his siblings regularly. He also had a passion for gardening and was an avid sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Alpha (Dupper) Senftner and by his sister Dian Callahan (Gary); he is survived by his son Benjamin and daughter Danielle (Lacey, WA), wife Terri (Wenachtee, WA), sister Donna Senftner-Klimas (Douglas), son Russell (Colorado Springs, CO) and daughter Paula (Denver, CO), brother Daniel (Carol) (Piedmont, SD), sons Matthew (Rapid City, SD), Adam (Black Hawk, SD), Nephew and Niece Clint Callahan and Keli Callahan, (Colorado Springs, CO), brother Dean (Mound City, SD); like his father Lawrence, "he never knew a stranger". He loved people and had friends all over the world.

He will be greatly missed.
