Delores D. Miller age 83, of Eagle Butte service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Blackfoot Ascension Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Family and friends are asked to meet at 4-mile junction at 4:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017 to proceed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a visitation that will begin at 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Delores passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at the IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte, SD.
Delores Dalema Ducheneaux (Lena) was born on July 26, 1934 to Albert John and Louisa Halsey. Delores grew up on the Cheyenne River Old Agency. Delores brothers are Napoleon Charles, Isadore, and Eugene Ducheneaux who were always there to help Delores no matter what the situation. Delores loved her brothers and they loved her. Delores had a happy childhood that was filled with love. Delores played guitar and loved to sing as a little girl and had a beautiful voice. In her later teen years, Delores worked for Frank and Babe Claymore babysitting their children where she earned extra money.
She was employed as a waitress at the Eagle Butte Truck Stop. Delores began employment for the Bureau of Indian Affairs C-EB school as a temporary employee in 1970 and in 1972 became a permanent Civil Service worker for the U.S. Government.
Delores married Kenneth Bowker and to that marriage one daughter was born Marti Bowker. Delores than married Kenneth Spotted Bear and to that union was born Kenneth (Johanna) Spotted Bear, Albert (Spudy) Spotted Bear, Joe (Connie) Spotted Bear, and Raylene LeBeau. Delores met and married Benjamin Miller and had three children Merrie Miller-White Bull (Kevin), Delores Geni Aguilar (Jamie), and Terrence Wade Miller. Delores met Westley Arpan and had two beautiful children Cherrish (Cher) Miller, Garrish Chance Miller. Cher and Chance brought much joy to the family.
Delores retired in 2005 and lived by herself in the Eagle Butte Community. Delores lived a quiet and peaceful life at her home along with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Delores often spoke about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she loved them dearly. She kept their pictures on the wall where she could look at them. Delores also loved her nieces and nephews and their children.
Delores liked to travel, to work on word finds and to sing. Delores was outspoken and taught her children to be independent and outspoken as well.
At her retirement party, Delores made the statement "I don't have a lot of big accomplishments, the one thing I tried to do was improve my life, and the lives of my children. I have lived a simple life but have learned the value of life and have always tried to help people around me."
Delores was had a testimony of Christ and believed in the power of prayer.
Delores had 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Delores was preceded in death by her father Albert John Ducheneaux, her mother Louisa Halsey-Ducheneaux, three brothers Napoleon Charles, Isadore, and Eugene Ducheneaux, two sons, Kenneth Spotted Bear, and Terrence Wade Miller and one grandson Bradley Phillip LeBeau, one granddaughter, Jamie Marie.
