Memorial services for Delmas Emmett Traversie Jr. "Cactus" age 63 of Eagle Butte, SD, will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Following services there will be a meal before the inurnment at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in LaPlant. Cactus passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at his home in Eagle Butte, SD. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD, is in charge of arrangements.

Delmas Emmett Traversie Jr arrived in this world on August 10, 1955 at Pierre, SD. His parents, the late Delmas and Elvira (Gilbert) Traversie welcomed their first son with loving arms and pride. Delmas was affectionately known to family and friends as "Cactus" from the day he was born.

Delmas received his education at Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School and attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. He was skilled in auto mechanics and repair.

Delmas met and married Audrey DeLong while attending college at Vermillion. To this union 2 children were born, Vincent and Nicole.

Delmas joined the Navy in 1987 and was discharged in 1988. He returned to Eagle Butte where he met his life partner, Delvina Morrison and romanced until her death in 2017. Together they had 3 children, two deceased and one living, Elvira L. Traversie.

Delmas enjoyed his family and friends and was known for his kind and generous heart. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it especially if it involved working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmas and Elvira (Gilbert) Traversie, brother Kim Traversie, son Delmas Traversie III, daughter Rose Traversie, Life Partner Delvina Morrison, paternal grandparents Moses and Ellen (Veo) Traversie, maternal grandparents Luke and Louise (Gets Off) Gilbert and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Left to cherish his memory is 2 daughters, Nicole Traversie of Center, CO; Elvira Traversie of Eagle Butte, SD; one Son, Vincent (Ernesta) Traversie of Thornton, CO; 8 grandchildren: Joy, Guenevere, Benjamin, Zembria, Xaria, Pablito, Zaniya and Zintkala; 2 Sisters: Gail (Daniel) Martin of Mina, SD, Dana (Conrad) Schlecht of Eagle Butte, SD, one Brother; Al Deone (Robin) Traversie of Rapid City, SD, Nieces and Nephews: Karen Umholtz, Dawnelle (Jeffrey) Martin-Sobb, Chad (Terri) Martin, Misty Martin, Ashley Traversie, Autumn Traversie, Alicia Schlecht, John Schlecht, Phoenix Schlecht, Angel Traversie, Emmett Traversie, Eric Traversie, David Traversie, Darren Traversie, Diamond Traversie, Gail Traversie, Gunner Traversie and Lucas Bowker.
