Delila Jean Bollinger was born October 7th, 1930 to Jacob and Catherine (Hofer) Bollinger in Campbell County. She spent her younger years on a farm near Herreid. She worked very hard on the farm milking cows, cooking, cleaning, and helping take care of her younger siblings. She attended school in Herreid and graduated in 1948.
On December 28th, 1951, Delila married Ervin Braun in Herreid, South Dakota and had four children. They made their home on a farm near Pollock and later moved into Pollock. During that time she was a teacher's aide and did substitute teaching. In 1968, Ervin and Delila moved to Mobridge where she had numerous jobs until taking full time employment with the State Extension Service and the WIC program for 27 years retiring in 1996.
Ervin and Delila were members of the Jeans and Janes Square dance club. Delila was active in LTC, Gray Ladies, a card club, Women of the Moose, TOPS, and was the secretary of the church council.
While working full time Delila still found time to take care of her mother and mother-in-law, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved to visit. In 1996 Ervin passed away and Delila kept herself busy with hobbies including reading, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, gardening, watching game shows, and shopping. She also enjoyed traveling to see her widespread family and spending time with her family and friends. One of the things her children and grandchildren will remember her most for was the fact that she was the best cook in the world. Stopping at her house on a Saturday morning almost always guaranteed a good German meal or something fresh out of the oven.
Something most wouldn't know about Delila is that she was a very avid Mobridge Tiger Sports fan. If there was a game on the radio you knew she was listening you were not disturb her. She never missed one.
One of the highlights of Delila's life was raising her family. At the time of her passing, she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her twin great-granddaughters expected in September.
She was a patient, kind, and loving mother and grandmother and always gave great advice, even if you didn't want to hear it. Grateful for having shared her life are her children Nancy Loop (David Lowe) of Ft. Myers, FL , Lyle (Kathy) Braun of Moore, OK, Julie Braun (John Steckler) of Elgin, ND, Jill (Bruce) Keller of Trail City, SD, grandchildren Casey Loop, Chelsea Thomas, Christine (Kent) Frazier, Michele Braun, Samantha Braun, Eric Braun (Heather), Jaime (Dan) Tomlin, Keri Erlandson (Dustin), Kamiron Erlandson, Kila (Bob) LeGrand, Jayde Keller (Troy), Lauren Keller (Jett).
Also surviving are great-grand children Colten, Samaya, Tristan, Braden, Logan and Axel, sister Carlotta (Tony) Quashnick of Bakersfield CA, Jacob (Dorothy) Bollinger of Wenatchee, WA, sister-in-law Jackie (Wayne) Spars of Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Catherine, husband Ervin, brother Kermit Bollinger and all of her brother and sister-in-laws on the Braun side.
