Dean Ross Tisdall was born July 1, 1962 in Mobridge, South Dakota to Donald and Joyce (Vander Laan) Tisdall. He started school in Mobridge and graduated from Alameda High School, Lakewood, Colorado in 1980. During High School and for the next 20 years after high school he was employed at Colorado Barricade Co., Inc. His duties included laborer, delivery truck driver, equipment operator, over-the-road heavy equipment hauler, sign maker and installer, traffic control supervisor, estimator, foreman, supervisor and manager. In addition to his job at Colorado Barricade he was a part-time Bouncer at the Gold Rush Night Club. After working for Colorado Barricade he was employed for 1 year at Sysco Foods as an over-the-road truck driver delivering fresh foods throughout the state of Colorado. He then teamed up with Rick Godkin and they started Bestway Pavement Marking and Traffic Control in Mobridge, South Dakota. As the company grew they added Bestway Signs and Designs along with Bestway Equipment Rentals.
Throughout his life Dean was active in riding horse, little league football, skiing, hunting, fishing, roller blading, bowling (he was proud of his 297, 298, 299 scores), motorcycle riding, and entertaining friends and family with his cooking. He was very proud of his collection of Snap-On Tools. He enjoyed attending and participating in fund raising events in the Mobridge and surrounding areas. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and attended as many games as he could every season.
With the many interests he had his true passion was riding motorcycles. He started with a mini-scooter, Honda 70, Honda 125, Yamaha 500, and then a Harley Davidson. No trip was ever too long if someone wanted him to ride with them. He attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for 33 consecutive years and had plans for this year as well.
Throughout his working career he also participated in as many civic and work-related organizations as he could. He was active in American Traffic Safety Service Association (ATSSA) as a member for 14 years and as a participant for 30 years, he was on the ATSSA Sign Committee, ATSSA Strategic Highway Safety Program Council, National Motorcycle Advisory Committee, Associated General Contractors of South Dakota (AGC of SD) member for 14 years, Mobridge Chamber of Commerce Director, Mobridge Rotary Club, Mobridge Rodeo Association (Secretary, President, Past President) including the Demolition Derby, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (many years), River Riders Motorcycle Club Mobridge (when it existed) and the Sons of Darkness Motorcycle Club in Denver, and he was always available to help at any event that needed volunteers.
What may turn out to be his greatest contribution is he registered himself as an organ donor in hopes that he could help someone in need along the way.
Dean is survived by his parents Don and Joyce Tisdall of Castle Rock, CO, his siblings Jim (Ronda) Tisdall of Arvada, CO, Patti Tisdall of Denver, CO, Mike (Tammy) Tisdall of Gretna, NE and Mitzi Vallon of Arvada, CO, four nieces, Jordan Tisdall, Sammi Vallon, Coco Vallon, and Gabbi Vallon, Uncles Randy (Kim) Vander Laan & Family of Lake City, MN and Robert (Virginia) Tisdall & Family of Plainfield, IL.
