Funeral services for Dave Dekker, age 74, of Mobridge will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Corner Stone Community Church in Mobridge. Burial will be a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Monday Starting at 4:00 PM at the Corner Stone community Church. A prayer service will be held Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the Church. Dave passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at his home in Mobridge.


Dave Dekker was born September 26, 1935 at Oskaloosa, Iowa to Fred and Helen (Gaass) Dekker. The family lived in Pella, Iowa. Dave was born during the depression and for a time while he was a young boy he and an older brother John lived with an aunt and uncle in Illinois for a short time before joining the family in Bellevue, Nebraska where he attended school graduating in 1953. On September 25, 1956 Dave entered the US Coast Guard.



On October 10, 1959 he married Nancy Elliott in Windham, Maine. Following their marriage they made their home in Marshfield, Mass where Dave finished his tour of duty in the Coast Guard. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard on Sept 23, 1960 they made their home in Bellevue, Nebraska where Dave worked at Offutt AFB in the water department and later he worked for the Water Dept at Bellevue. In 1969 Dave went to work for the Sun Newspaper which was owned by Warren Buffet, where he was advertising manager. In 1974 they came to Mobridge where Dave worked as an Advertising Manager for the Mobridge Tribune until 2000 when he retired. He was then recruited to work for Aberdeen Farm Forum until 2003 when he retired once again. After his retirement Dave would help out at Lucky's Gas N More, Mobridge Motors and Kesling Funeral Home. Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching Nebraska Football.



Dave was a member of the Corner Stone Community Church and served as a deacon and a member of the Mobridge Ham Radio Club.



Dave is survived by his wife Nancy of Mobridge, two sons; Tom (Dani) Dekker of Mobridge and David Dekker of Mobridge, one daughter; Diane Dekker of Mobridge (Fiancé Lee Redlegs of Chandler, AZ), 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, one brother John (Jeri) Dekker of Lyons Nebraska and one sister Vicky (Floyd) Jo Hansen of Friend, Nebraska and Elli his dog that saved his life in 2001.



He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter; Carol Lynn and one brother Robert.
