Mass of Christian Burial for Darren Loans Arrow, 49, will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Kenel. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Kenel under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Rosary will be 6:00 PM Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Kesling Funeral Home. Darren passed away Sunday, May, 8, 2016, at the Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier, ND.
Darren was born on May 15, 1966, at IHS, Ft. Yates, ND, to John Loans Arrow Jr. and Bernadine Walking Elk. He lived in Brein, ND, where his father was a rancher. They moved to Kenel, SD, and later moved to Ft. Yates where he attended Ft. Yates Elementary School.
Darren was admitted to the Developmental Center in Grafton, ND, in 1975, but lived with his grandparents, John and Jenny Loans Arrow, intermittently throughout his childhood until 1982. He moved permanently to the Developmental Center in 1993. He did some piece rate work making snack bag labels, shredding and making shamrocks for the Knights of Columbus.
Since 2011, Darren was at REM North Dakota, Grafton, which provided services and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He was an active member of the community and surrounding areas. He often attended pow-wows, rodeos, concerts, monster truck events, and the Harlem Globetrotters. He also enjoyed taking part in Summer Fest, 4th of July and Walsh County Fair. Darren also participated in Relay for Life in Grafton, FAS Walk in Devil's Lake and the Sunshine Walk in Grand Forks. He enjoyed spending time with friends. He loved horses, Turkeys, fishing and hunting. He watched Western movies and the TV show Cops. He would often sing "Bad Boys". Darren will be missed by many. He enjoyed life to the fullest and will be remembered for putting smiles on many faces.
Darren is survived by his sisters, Cheryl Loans Arrow of Bismarck, ND, and Tonda (Titus) White Lance of Parmalee, SD; his nephews, Lawrence Bearking of Bismarck, Walter Lester Jr., and Brent Lester of Parmalee; and his nieces, Amy Bearking of Bismarck, and Trisha (Donald) Clairmont of Parmalee.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Sr. and Jenny Loans Arrow; his maternal grandparents, Mark and Margaret Walking Elk; his parents, John Loans Arrow Jr. and Bernadine Walking Elk; his brother, Arthur Yellow Hammer; and his niece, Bella Brooke Lester.
