Darlene Betty Zephier Williams was born on January 8, 1932, in Lower Brule, SD, to Antoine and Victoria Zephier. She graduated from Flandreau Public School in 1950. She attended business school and worked for a short time in California after she graduated from high school. She married Maurice Williams in 1957. They began their life together on their ranch. They moved to Crow Agency in Montana and Wewoka, Oklahoma where Maurice worked for the BIA. After a year they moved to Eagle Butte, SD, where she worked in the school system and BIA Land Operations and raised their four children. When Maurice retired, they moved back to their ranch for the remainder of their years together. Darlene enjoyed her retirement years. She refinished furniture, sewed, made different craft items, sold Avon and spent many days visiting her children.
After Maurice passed away Darlene moved to Spearfish, SD to be close to her children, grandchildren and medical care. She made many lasting relationships with people and the church. Darlene was known for many things, with not one being a negative . Beautiful, kind, smart, happy, considerate, and the list goes on and on with attributes that any person could only hope to be remembered. She was known for her generosity. Darlene loved to help people. If she had something extra in her purse and thought someone needed it she made every effort to help them. She felt she was blessed and wanted to pay it forward.
Darlene was kind, loyal and most of all, abundantly loving to her family. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, and she had special relationships with each one of them. All of her grandchildren knew that grandma would give them anything they wanted when they went to visit her.
Grateful to have shared her life are sons, David Zephier, Brady Williams, Carson (Samantha) Williams, daughters, Sandra (James) Williams Luther, Jacqueline (Mike) Schwartz, her sisters, Evon Zephier, Charlene Wince, and her brothers, Richard Zephier and Harley Zephier. Darlene had 14 grandchildren who will miss her kindness, love and comfort she offered them until the day she died. She also had eight great grandchildren who were blessed to call her Great grandma and also felt her love and kindness.
Darlene had many nieces and nephews who also knew her for her kindness. Darlene will always be known for the quiet comfort she brought to many people in her life.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Antoine and Victoria Zephier, her husband, Maurice A. Williams, brothers, Andy Zephier, Nelson Zephier, William Zephier and sister, Jewel Zephier, baby Zephier
