Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene Morsette, age 52, of Ft. Yates, will be 11:00 am CT Thursday, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary in Kenel. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5PM to 7PM at the church with a rosary at 7 PM. Darlene passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Med Center One in Bismarck.

Darlene Morsette was born December 1, 1958 to Raymond Phillip and Dorothy Mae (Demery)Yellow Fat in Fort Yates, ND. She attended elementary school at Freeman Davis in Mobridge, middle school at St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, and high school in Fort Yates, until her junior year. Darlene received her G.E.D. in 1977 and attended Sitting Bull College for 2 years. She graduated in the spring of May 1979 with a Associates degree. From there, she went on to attend National College of Business in Rapid City for a year before moving back to Kenel, SD. On June 30, 1986 she received a temporary position with the S.R.S.T., as an assistant to the Tribal Council Secretary. She was hired permanently for the position in September 1986 and has been working with the Tribal Council since then.

Darlene enjoyed bowling up until her health conditions started. She also liked gambling, cross words, family cook outs, and going with her grandchildren to rodeos and pow wows.

She is survived by her daughters; Stacy Lynn Eagle (Kelly Moore), Desiree Dorothy Morsette (Tony Iron Road) all of Kenel, grandchildren Jacob Fox, Justin Fox, Julius Fox, Damian Morsette, godchildren; Nedda Demery, Jess Bearsheart, Christine Walking Elk, Sara Crow Feather, James Yellow Fat, brothers Terrance & Gayleen (Claymore) Yellow Fat of Fort Yates, Rodney & Glena (LeBeau) Yellow Fat and Cordell & Judi (Martin) Yellow Fat both of Kenel, sisters, Annette Yellow Fat and Irma & Todd Walking Elk all of Kenel. Aunts, Rose Demery and Theresa Pleets.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loretta Crow Feather, Marcella Traversie, Robert Yello Fat, Edwin Demery, Robert Demery, Leslie Demery, two nephews Dustin Walking Elk, Joe Yellow Fat.
