Obituary

Funeral services for Darlene Moak, age 78, of Selby will be at 10:30
AM, Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby. Burial will be at the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM Sunday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Darlene passed away Wednesday,May 7, 2014 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.

Darlene June Moak was born on July 2, 1935 in rural Herreid, SD to
Oscar William and Dacota Emma (Perleinfein) Prasek. She was baptized
and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church. She attended country school for eight years before joining Glenham High School. She graduated in 1953 as the valedictorian. Darlene began her working career at Ben Franklin in Mobridge for eight months before starting to work at the Farm Service Agency in Mound City and Selby. She married Herbert Moak on December 9, 1956 at Norway Lutheran Church. Following the birth of her first son Darlene took time away from the FSA office to raise her family. She then returned to the FSA office and ended up spending twenty five years there all while being a fulltime farm wife and raising her family. In 1996 she started working for John Salzsiedler Crop Insurance retiring in 2008. Herb passed away on June 6, 2003. Darlene remained on the farm until November 2010 when she entered the Selby Good Samaritan Center where she has since resided.

Darlene belonged to the Royal Neighbors of America of Selby, Selby
American Legion Auxiliary, Farmerettes Extension Club of Mound City, VFW Club of Mobridge, Mobridge Moose Club, Campbell County Stars Square Dancers and was on the county committee board for FSA after her retirement. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, ELCA, Board of Education and Church Council.

Darlene enjoyed her grandchildren, square dancing with Herb, and playing cards with friends. She will always be remembered for her smile.

Darlene is survived by three sons, Ladean (Sharon) Moak of Selby,
Loren (Nyla) Moak of Selby, and Larue (Laurel) Moak of Selby,
grandchildren, Jenna (Timothy) Fieber of Milbank, Kendra Moak of
Brookings, Lynette Moak of Selby, Lyndsey Moak of Selby and step grandson, Chad Horst of Gillette, WY, brothers, Oscar (Phyllis) Prasek Jr. of Selby, and Delbert (Peggy) Prasek of Bismarck, sister, Dawn (Clarence) Hanson of Bismarck and close friend, Bonnie Schnaible of Selby.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, and her parents.
