Daniel Lewis Marshalek, 32, of Eagle Butte, passed away, Friday, June 23, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck. Private Family services will be held. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Lewis (sunkmanitu yamni) was born May 18th1991, to his beautiful mother Carmen Means and Father Anthony Brown Sr. He was a happy baby, lighting the room up everywhere with his bright smile. He loved his momma more than anyone knew. In 1992, Daniel was Baptized in the month of July and later on in September he gained a little sister named Dana, which he called her "dee dee" because he couldn't pronounce her name. The first few years of Daniel's life was spent in Colorado, where is mother and father was stationed. At a young age Daniel and his sister went to live with uncle CJ and Aunt Sandy down in New Mexico and then their grandmother Germaine in Armstrong County, SD while their mom was deployed in Germany. There Daniel learned how to rope a steer using a mechanical dummy his uncles built, helped out with cattle, and took care of his own bum calf's name Daisy. Another skill he learned was how to fish and if he could, he would eat the fish caught for breakfast if grandma let him. To Grandma that was her "Danny boy" and "Daniel Boone". Playing in the Grain bins, climbing on haystacks, and playing in any mud possible was how Daniel and his sister would enjoy their time after chores were done. Daniel attended Head start at the Cheyenne river head start center in Eagle butte with many of his cousins. Daniels mom married Donald Marshalek in 1998 and gave Daniel and his sister the world. They moved to the black hills and Daniel started kindergarten in Hill City, SD. After kindergarten, he started attending school at Canyon Lake Elementary school in Rapid city where he met his childhood best friends Andrew, Connor, Ben, and Justine. During his elementary days Daniel started picking up sports like foot ball and Basketball. He loved the rush of the game in both sports as he was quick on his feet. Daniel went on to achieve many awards throughout elementary school. Daniel also played the viola and was asked to play in the strings of music at the Civic Center in Rapid. He played Santa Clause and many other roles throughout his time in grade school. In 2003, Daniel gained another sibling, his little brother Chris and that was the beginning of a beautiful bond. He loved his little brother so much and called him bubba. In 2005 Daniels parents moved the family to Maryland where he finished his middle school and that is where he ended up getting the nick name "Tiger Woods" by his best friend Serge because he looked like the young Tiger Woods, then to just "Tiger". Daniel dedicated his pre-teens to his love for Basketball and football, but basketball triumphed overall, and he was invited to condition at many sport camps and became a remarkable player on the court. In 2008 his family moved to Virginia where he finished his high school career. Starting high school as a sophomore in a new state didn't bother Daniel one bit, in fact he was more than thrilled to meet new people and he wasn't disappointed. Everyone loved Daniel, from his beautiful smile, his wacky personality, his gentle soul, and the confidence that he carried. During high school, Daniel shook the basketball courts with his skills and techniques. His new friend didn't know where he came from, and when Daniel told him he was from South Dakota it shocked everyone. One thing that Daniel wanted to do was play in the LNI's, he was ready to move back to grandmas. Many Schools looked at Daniel, Wake Forest, George Mason, and Georgetown to name a few. As the season progressed the team became more than a team, they became a brotherhood, and they always had each other's backs. Daniel loved to make a crowd if it was from joking around, to spitting rhymes after school, to straight break dancing out of nowhere he had to make people smile. Many teachers and staff loved seeing Daniel because he would always use his manner and was respectful even if he was goofing off. Everyone knew Daniel was going to be something in life and he was. After Highschool Daniel took time to find himself and was tackling this challenge called life. In that time, him and his sister Dana got to meet their other siblings, A.J, Walt, Shay, Toya, and Big Man and their nieces and nephews. Each of his siblings got to create their own personal relationships that grew into this lifetime guarantee of love and support after so many years not meeting. Daniel finally had his entire family then. In 2016 Daniel was baptized in Richmond, VA. He went on to become a waiter for a few years and then a manager at a warehouse in Richmond. Daniel was a wonderful uncle to his nephew Isaiah for the time that he was on earth. He would always make Isaiah smile and squeal throughout the day when he would come back to the room to check on him. Daniel was a light in every scene, he knew how to be the friend that you needed and that shoulder to cry on. He would literally take the clothes and shoes off of his back and feet if someone else needed it. His heart was the biggest around and everyone knew it. The memories that live in each one that Daniel shared his life with are cherished and will be remembered throughout the rest of this lifetime, and the next.

Daniel is survived by his partner Jessica, his sisters Dana, Toya, and Shay, his brothers, Chris, A.J, Walt, and Big Man, and his dad Don. He is also survived by his brothers Serge, Antonio "tick", Will, Marcus, Zach, Calvin and Kelvin and his sisters Sade, Adrienne, and all of the east coast family and friends.

Preceding Daniel in death is his mom Carmen, Grandparents Cecil and Germaine, aunt Donna, Uncle John, nephew Isaiah, Cousin Shamia, and his friend Kwesi.
