Dan was born on April 10, 1952 in Hoven, South Dakota to Henry and Emily (Cartwright) Reimer. He grew up in Lead-Deadwood, South Dakota, and later in Mobridge raised lovingly by his grandmother Anne Reimer.
He married Marilyn Skillingstad on June 2, 1973 and together raised a daughter and son, and numerous other "children" who needed love, safely and a home, Dan brought the best out of everyone around him.

After high school Dan worked construction and Homestake Gold Mine. From there Dan made life an adventure traveling to many states working construction, then worked water at the plant in Mobridge. Mobridge was always the destination to raise his family around loving family and friends. In his spare time Dan enjoyed watching and playing sports, tending his small garden of flowers. His greatest past time was on the river. Many memories and fun were spent taking his family and friends on his boat that was equipped with loud music and laughter.

The words he loved to hear and warmed his heart were "Papa" "Pops" "Dad" "Hey Bud" "Pontoon Dan". Winter became his favorite season when he traveled to Texas to be with his granddaughter Grace for a couple of months.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Julie Reimer, son Gregory Reimer, granddaughter Grace Smith, mother-in-law Alma Skillingstad, special son Howard Smith, brothers, Stephen (Sandra) Reimer, Michael Reimer, extended family Lois (Reimer) Gregor, Vern May, Robert May, special grandchildren, Rayna and Teyvan Archambault and special daughter, Tracie Archambault.
