Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Dan Keckler, 73, of Ridgeview will be 10:30 AM, MT Saturday, July 30, 2011 at All Saint's Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Ridgeview under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM, Friday at the church with a rosary at 7 PM. Mr. Keckler passed away July 26, 2011 at his home in Ridgeview.

Danny Dean Keckler was born on March 22, 1938 to Gail and Kathryn (Hagel) Keckler in Eagle Butte, SD. He attended grade school in Ridgeview, SD where he graduated from the 8th grade. He worked for ranchers and farmers around the Ridgeview area. He also worked delivering gas throughout the area for Buck Miller, Dick Thompson, and the Little Dakota Truck Stop. On October 26, 1962 he married Janet Lawrence at Pierre, SD and to this union 3 daughters, Renae, Danielle, and Luree were born and they made their home in Eagle Butte, SD. In 1973 they moved to Ridgeview, SD and started ranching with Chuck Hiett.

Dan looked forward to hunting and fishing with friends and family, especially the annual grouse hunting season with his friends from Sioux Falls and Shreveport, LA. He watched the PBR on TV every weekend and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dog Buffy. He loved ranching even as his health deteriorated, when he started to rely upon his nephew Kevin for assist. Dan was known for teasing friends and family and hanging a nickname on everyone.

Dan is survived by his loving wife Janet of 48 years, his daughter Danielle (Ed) Chasing Hawk of Aberdeen, SD and Luree (Phil) Livermont of Aberdeen, SD, brothers Jim (Rita) Keckler of Sioux Falls, SD and Bob (Arliss) Keckler of Armstrong County, SD, sister Audrey (Red) Traversie of Ridgeview, SD, grandchildren Dustin, Jaymie, Katee, Robby, McKinley, Devin, Ben, Brendan, and four great grandchildren Dustilyn, Noah, Greta, and Clare, and special aunt "Tugie".

He is preceded in death by his parents Gail Keckler, Katy and Chuck Hiett, one brother Bill Keckler, two sisters Donna Claymore and Kay Traversie, one daughter Renae Lynn Zahn, three grandchildren Kamryn, Adam, and Demi Zahn.
