Dakota Farias passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 in Buffalo, SD, where he was employed for the summer. He was the son of Strawberri Deacon and Jose Farias born on February 18, 2000 in Nederland, TX.
He proudly attended Veterans Tribute Career and Technical school in Las Vegas, NV, where he excelled in their law enforcement program. During his time there he joined a rubik's cube club and quickly became one of their fastest members. Dakota attended Mobridge High School from September 2015 until graduating in May 2018 as valedictorian of the class. He was a member of National Honor Society and would often participate in fundraisers. He ran track, played basketball, was involved in the big brother/big sister program. He loved singing and choir became one of his favorites. He worked at Dairy Queen, the Mobridge Care Center, and for a short amount of time at Great Plains restaurant with a close friend and his family. By attending night classes at the hospital he was also able to become a certified EMT. He joined the South Dakota Army National Guard his junior year of high school.
He was considerate, active, skilled, and excelled at everything he did. He would notice someone's needs and immediately take care of them before the person thought to ask. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. He had an incredible imagination as well as a penchant for figuring things out. He spent some summers with relatives in Montana where he would roam the wide open spaces. This gave him a love for the cowboy way of living at a young age. From then on, he learned to lasso calves, ride horse, and heard cattle. He began dreaming of one day having his very own ranch complete with horses. Even after returning to city life he was able to practice lassoing using his imagination. He then practiced on his made up horses (lawn chairs).
