A memorial service for Cynthia Ducheneaux, 68, of Aberdeen, SD, formerly of Wakpala, SD, will be held at 10AM, Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Kesling Memorial Chapel of Mobridge, SD. Burial at St. Bede's Catholic Cemetery of Wakpala under the direction of the Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Cynthia passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016, at Avera St. Luke's of Aberdeen.
Cynthia Jean Ducheneaux was born on January 9, 1948, in Igloo, SD, to Carl and Alice Ducheneaux. Cindy grew up in Wakpala on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, where she attended school and graduated in 1965. In 1967 Cindy married Norman Jesse Redwing of Sisseton, SD. Together they had two children, Norman Everette Redwing and Jaqueline Jean Redwing. In 1974 Cindy married Carl Sam and together they had one child, Stephanie Sam.
Cindy worked for the Wakpala Nutrition Center and in 1983 she and carl moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she worked for the Avera St. Luke's Hospital. In the Early 1990's Cindy moved back to Wakpala and worked at the Grand River Casino. In 2009 Cindy moved back to Aberdeen, where she worked at CK's Casino Corner until she fell ill to lung cancer in 2012. Cindy beat cancer and enjoyed the rest of her days spending time with her grandchildren. Cindy will be remembered for always smiling and laughing at the little things.
Cindy is survived by her brother, Carl Ducheneaux of Ft. Yates, ND; her sisters, Carol Dunn of Ft. Yates, and Diane Mcbride of White River, SD; her son, Norman Redwing of Sisseton, SD; her daughters, Jackie Redwing (Bill Owen) of Sisseton, and Stephanie Sam of Aberdeen; and her grandchildren, Norman Redwing, Hunter GreyCloud, Gunner Owen, Tanner Owen, and Piper Owen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Alice Ducheneaux; her paternal grandparents, Walter and Eva Strongheart; her maternal grandparents, Jake and Elizabeth Wiest; her sisters, Denise Ducheneaux and Rose Marie Ramey.
