Memorial services for Curtiss "Cud" Cheskey age 73 of Mobridge, will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Kesling Funeral Chapel, Mobridge. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral. Cud passed away August 23, 2014 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House in Rapid City.
Curtiss J. (Cud) Cheskey, age 73, of Mobridge passed away on August 23, 2014 in Rapid City, SD with family by his side. He was born in Mobridge, SD on March 19, 1941 along with his twin brother Willis (Wood) to Wayne and Maxine (Schlepp) Cheskey of Selby, SD.
He grew up and attended school in Selby where he and his twin brother were active in football, basketball, track and rodeo. He and his teammates formed a bond that created many memories and they remained close to this day.
On August 26, 1961 he married Colleen K. Norby in Mobridge. Early on in their marriage Cud worked road construction and they lived in Mitchell, Brookings, Rapid City and Bismarck, ND. He worked various ranch jobs including the Owen Brothers of San Saba, TX. He then became employed with the United States Postal Service where he worked until his retirement. At the time of his death he was a brand inspector for the SD Brand Board.
Cud always put the wants and needs of his family ahead of his own. He was a kind, soft-spoken, compassionate man. He had a soft spot for his 5 granddaughters and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
He had varied interests including fixing up old cars, going to horse sales and rodeos and going to coffee with his friends. He was a member of the Klein Museum Board, past president of the Mobridge Rodeo Association, past Grand Marshall of the Sitting Bull Stampede and member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter; Carla and her husband Graling of Rapid City, son; Carter and wife Kirsten of Wyomissing Hills, PA, granddaughters; Courtney and Chelsey Carmichael of Aberdeen, SD, Emma, Olivia and Julia Cheskey of Wyomissing Hills, PA, a great grandson Harper of Aberdeen, SD, his twin brother Wood and wife Elaine of Selby, SD and a sister Deb Boschee and husband Dan from Rapid City, SD. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, his parents; Wayne and Maxine Cheskey, sisters; Cheryl McDonald and Candace Dosch.
