Funeral services for Cornell Ochsner, 94, of Herreid will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 4th, at the Herreid Reformed Church. Interment will be in the Friedens Heinz Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Cornell Edwin Ochsner was born on a farm near Artas, SD to Calvin and Rosina (Hoerth) Ochsner on November 2, 1930. On Friday, November 29, 2024, Cornell passed away peacefully at the Linton hospital. He attended rural school and grew up working on the family farm, he then briefly worked for Sun Telly Construction installing power lines in SD.
Cornell married Nettie (Naasz) on December 3, 1950, they then moved to their farm seven miles southwest of Herreid where they lived until 2008, when they moved into town. Cornell transitioned to the Good Samaritan Center in December of 2021, where he received great care.
Cornell was a life-long member of the Reformed Church. In his younger days Cornell loved to bowl and was a member of the Herreid Jaycee's. His passion was farming, raising cattle and spending time with his family.
Cornell is survived by his four children, Kathy (Tom) Larson of Belle Fourche, SD, Deb Senftner of Rapid City, SD, Patty (Jim) Junkins of Houston, TX, Bruce (Mardel) Ochsner of Herreid, SD, and one brother, Jerry (Joyce) Ochsner of Rapid City, SD. Eleven grandchildren, Teresa (Monty) Helmer, Brian (Nancy) Larson, Scott (Lori) Larson, Matt (Monica) Senftner, Adam (Missi) Senftner, Marie (Damon) Wehr, Brenda (Adam) Hayes, Tyler (Lisa) Ochsner, Makendra Ochsner, Nicole (Corey) Graff, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Cornell was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie; his parents; one grandson, Chad Ochsner; four brothers, Elmer, Milton, Donald, John and three sisters, Ruth Fuehrer, Delores Roland and Darlean Hoisington.
