Memorial services for Clifton Showman, 85, of Java, SD, will be at 5 PM, Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Cornerstone Community Church in Mobridge. Clifton passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2015, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Clifton was born on July 5, 1930, to Emery and Violet (Olson) Showman in Deep River Falls, Minnesota. After graduating from high school Clifton enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Korean War.
After the war Clifton returned home and married his first wife, to this union one son, Kurt Showman, was born. He later married his wife of 35 years, Anetta, and the two remained happily married until her passing in 2011. The two had two children, Linnea Hepper and Jay Showman.
Clifton owned and operated a bar in Hopkins, Minnesota, for many years. He also spent time working as a semi-driver.
In his free time Clifton enjoyed the outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed going to the shooting range and making his own bullets and stocks for his guns. His talent for target shooting was well known and he was the Minnesota State Champion Muzzleloader for 1959 and 1960. His current hobbies include playing cards, BINGO, reading, and watching old westerns.
Clifton is survived by his children, Kurt Showman, Linnea (Bryce) Hepper and Jeremiah Joseph Showman; his grandchildren, Kelly Showman, Kortland Showman, Kristian Showman, Kiersten Stickney, Ayden Stickney; and his sister, Sandra (Allen) Penfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Showman; and his parents, Emery and Violet Showman.
