Funeral services for Claudia "Pfaff" Marchewitz, age 93 of Mobridge will be Wednesday,10:30 AM June 18, 2014 at the United Congregational Church in Mobridge. Visitation will be Tuesday, starting at 2:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Kesling Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at UCC Cemetery in Java, SD, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Claudia passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Claudia "Pfaff" Marchewitz was born on September 24, 1920 in Java, South Dakota to Michael and Martha (Biel) Kary. Claudia attended Java School and graduated in 1939. Claudia married in 1941 to Herbert (Hap) Pfaff, they made their home on the farm 9 miles from Java, SD and to this union 3 children were born.
In 1970 she married Jim Marchewitz. Claudia owned and operated Claudia's Café in Java until 1973 when she moved to Mobridge. Her first job was at JC Penneys until it closed and then she started working at Beverly Health Care for a number of years. Later Claudia went to work at Social Services where she worked as a Home Health Care Aide until her retirement.
All through her years Claudia baked cakes for many, many people and many different occasions. She was given the name "The Cake Lady" by all who enjoyed her cakes. Claudia loved her cakes but also liked to bowl, play cards, go to the Casino and cook german food for her kids. Claudia taught Sunday School for 14 years at the Java UCC Church, which she loved.
Claudia went into her new home at the Golden Living Center in 2005 where she spent the remaining years of her life.
Claudia was a member of the United Congregational Church in Mobridge, Ladies Aide, American Legion and The Moose.
Claudia is survived by her son; Don (Jeneane) Pfaff of Enderlin, ND, one daughter Dixie (Dean) Schilling of Mobridge, son-in-law Chester Beck and 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Carol Beck , and 2 brothers.
