Clarence "Bud" Neigel was born on May 1, 1936, on a farm near Eagle Butte, SD, to Anton "Tony" and Theresia (Zacher) Neigel. He and his 11 sisters grew up and graduated from Eagle Butte High School. In the fall of 1955, he enlisted into the US Army.
After returning home, Bud took a part-time winter job working for Tom McGuire as a plumber and construction worker. In 1958, he and Darold Becker purchased Eagle Butte Plumbing & Heating.
Bud married Helen Raile on November 12, 1960. To this union of 64 years, they raised four children: Dave, Rick, Colette, and Marie.
Bud enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling, playing cards, horseshoes, corn hole, watching football (with maybe a small wager) but mostly he enjoyed being around family.
He loved his community and was proud to serve on several boards (Parish Council, Parade Hall, City Council, Cemetery Board, to mention a few). His goal was to improve the outcome of any situation.
Bud was a charter board member of the United Eagle Butte Cemetery, which was organized in 1965. He valued the many years of association with each of the board members throughout the years.
Bud was a Volunteer Firefighter for over 50 years. He also treasured the over 50 years of association and friendships of the members of the Dupree, Eagle Butte, and Faith Knights of Columbus Council.
Bud is survived by his wife, Helen, sons, Dave (Jean) Neigel, Rick (Tina) Neigel and daughter, Colette (Kevin) Van Well, grandchildren, Jeff (Kylee) Neigel and their children Adaline and Easton; Scott (Ashley) Neigel and their daughters Brynlee and Callie; Alissa Neigel; Taylor Van Well; Kaci (Blake) Ulrich and their daughters Faith, Gracelynn, and Haven; Darin (Sammie) Maier and their daughter Sienna; Jordan (Kaitlyn) Maier; sisters, Alma Hill (Texas), Clarie (Bob) Melvin (Rapid City), Gloria Allen (Rapid City) and Sharon (Jeff) Neigel-Wright (Washington).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Theresia; infant children, Dennis and Mary Ann; daughter, Marie Maier; sisters, Julie Hinkley, Mary Helen Riss, Phyllis Schneider, Alice Myers, Rosie Galbraith, Shirley McDermaid, Gertrude Neigel, and Colette Monet.
