Obituary

Funeral services for Clarence Hanson, 87, of Mound City will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 24, 2022 at Norway Lutheran Church, rural Glenham. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. There will be a prayer service at 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Clarence was born Aug. 24, 1935, to Anna (Hopland) and Alfred H. Hanson on the family farmstead, rural Glenham, SD. Clarence was the youngest of 11 children, with eight sisters and two brothers, and four more brothers-in-law added when four of his sister's married brothers on the Schlomer side.

Clarence attended grade school at the Wayside Country School, not far from their farmstead. He grew up helping on the family farm. At the age of 19, his parents took him by train to Rochester, MN where he had major back surgery, later returning

by ambulance to the homestead. He then worked in Jamestown, ND for one year, where he made $.65 per hour at the Jamestown Creamery writing milk checks to local farmers.

Clarence married the love of his life, Dawn Janette Prasek, on June 29, 1958, at Norway Lutheran Church. They farmed and milked cows on his Dad's homestead and then rented a farm for several years. In 1969 they bought a farm west of Mound City, SD. Clarence farmed and ranched with Dawn right by his side, and they were named Campbell County's Outstanding Farmers in 1981. He loved life on the farm, especial the corn harvest.

He was a lifelong member of Norway Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and held many church positions. He was a lifelong member of the Mobridge Moose Lodge, a past member of the Mobridge Country Club, a director for 16 years on the Glenham Equity board, an officer in the Campbell County Stars (a square dance club), and a 15-year member of the Crop Improvement Board. He served as a committee man for the ASC office, a charter member of the Mound City Lions and the Mound City Wildlife Club.

He loved bowling on the Glenham Equity and Mobridge Livestock teams, hunting, and vacationing with family, but his greatest love was farming, which he excelled in until he was forced to retire in 1993 due to his health. After that, Dawn and Clarence enjoyed taking their camper to spend winters in Desert Hot Springs, CA. They purchased a home there to spend their winters and loved when family and friends would come for a visit.

In 2010 they sold their homestead and bought a condo in Bismarck, ND. Failing health prompted him to move to Missouri Slopes Lutheran Care Center. There he enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, and riding his scooter.

Clarence, 87, passed away on Oct. 17, 2022, at Missouri Slopes Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND, with his family by his side.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Dawn; daughters, Linda and husband Kent Meyer of Pollock, SD; Lori and husband John Stronach of Hockley, TX; and son Lynn and wife Laura Hanson of Mina Lake, SD; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Levi) Van Beek, Jessica (Todd) Feist, Lance Voller, Devan (Stacy) Voller and Marshall Hanson and friend Claire Backes; great-grandchildren Hank, Archie and Ella Van Beek, Aria and Layla Voller and Lexi Voller. He is survived by one sister, Jennie (Hanson) Carlson of Reno, Nevada; one sister-in-law, Josey Hanson and several nieces and nephews and their families.
