Obituary

Funeral Services for Christopher Young, 25, of Ft. Yates, ND, are 10AM-MT, Friday, February 19, 2016, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Ft. Yates. Burial will take place at the Young Family Cemetery under the direction of the Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation begins at 5PM-MT, Thursday, February 18, 2016, with a prayer service at 7PM, at the church. Chris passed away on Tuesday, February 09, 2016, at his home.

Christopher was born on June 4, 1990 in Bismarck, North Dakota. He grew up in Fort Yates, North Dakota the son of Debra Unno (Young). Chris was raised by his aunt Sharon Sandoval and adopted-dad Joe Molash.

As a child Chris danced at powwows and would accompany his dad and the Vietnam Veterans as they led the grand entry. Ever since he was born Chris was always smiling, happy and outgoing. Chris loved sports. His favorite sports were basketball and football. Chris also loved rap music and would write his own songs. When his niece and nephew were born he helped to take care of them and was always playing video games with them.

Chris was the great-great grandson of Inyan He Wita--Rocky Butte, the woman warrior, who rode on horseback with the men warriors "in the surround" at the Battle of the Greasy Grass in 1876 (Little Bighorn). Chris was a descendant of the Dakota who were exiled out of the state of Minnesota. He was also great grandson to Theresa Topa Yellow Lodge, who was a medicine woman and the only known woman winter count keeper from Standing Rock. He was a part of the Young - Yellow Lodge Thiospaye. Chris was very proud of this family history and loved his family. Chris loved his friends equally and was a loyal brother to them. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Chris is survived by his special friend: Robyn "Bobbi" Weddell (Fort Yates); his mothers: Debra Unno and Sharon Sandoval (both of Fort Yates); brothers: Taro Unno, Joel Sandoval (both of Fort Yates); sister: Micki Jelikovsky (Phoenix, AZ); aunts: Bette Manning, Carol (Billy) Little Owl, Frances (Robert) Silk (Selfridge, ND); Lori Little Warrior; uncle: Pepper (Phyllis) Young, (all of Fort Yates); special niece and nephews: Jolee, Benjamin, Morgan Jr. (Fort Yates).

Christopher was preceeded in death by: his adopted father Joe Molash; his grandmother Mary Yellowlodge Young Bailey; grandfather Gabriel Young; brothers: Morgan "Zeke" Silk; sister: Mary Ann Sandoval and adopted brother Christopher Little Bird.
