Obituary

Funeral services for Chester "Chet" Mraz age 89 of Dupree will be 10:00 AM MDT Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Pioneer Hall in Dupree. Burial will be in the Dupree City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Chet passed away, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Belle Fourche Nursing Home.

Chet Mraz was born July 23, 1926 to Frank and Ella (Hermanech) Mraz at Dupree. He was the 8th child of 14.

He attended the rural Main School until his 8th year. He then went to work for his parents for a few years. Finally, he decided to travel and worked in several states including Alaska, Wyoming, California.
He entered the United States Army in October of 1950. Took basic training in Louisiana then was sent to Korea in February of 1951. In February of 1952 he returned to California and was honorably discharged in July of 1952. While in the Army he was a member of 5th Army area attached to the Company B 87th Recon Battalion. He received the Purple Heart and Korea Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and the United Nation Service Medal.

After returning home in August of 1952 he went to help his parents farm and ranch until 1955.


He married Elizabeth (Betty) Till on November 24, 1955 and they moved to a place north of Dupree they had bought. They two sons William and James Mraz. He liked to hunt and fish, but his favorite things where cutting hay and running the combine.

In later years he enjoyed watching his grandchildren work at the farm and ranch and at sporting events. Chet worked on the ranch until his passing.

Chet was a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Edwin Hodgdon American Legion Post #124 of Dupree. member of the County Improvement Association, member of the Farmers Coop Elevator Board.

Chet is survived by his sons; Bill (Gay) Mraz and Jim (Kristin) Mraz his brother Frank Mraz Jr. 3 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chet is preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2008, parents, 12 brothers and sisters.
