Mass of Christian Burial for Cecilia Brown Otter, age 91 of Rock Creek, SD will be 11:00 CT, Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Rock Creek. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM with a Rosary at 8:00 PM at the Church. Cecilia passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at her home in Rock Creek, SD.
Cecilia was born on May 1, 1927 to Joachim and Victoria (DeRockbraine) Hairy Chin. She grew up along with her five brothers and three sisters.
Cecilia met and married the love of her life, our Dad; Clayton Brownotter Sr. on Christmas Day 1946. Together they raised twelve children; Quentin (Jim), Clayton Jr., Lawrence D., Judy, Percy Sr., Jolene, Courtney, Ivan, Ronald, Janet, Mary Jo and one brother, Conrad whom died as an infant.
Cecilia received her G.E.D. in 1975 and was a cook for the Head Start Program and on the Green Thumb Program for several years. She also took care of her mother; Victoria for many years. Her most important job was being a mother and a homemaker.
She became an American Legion Auxiliary member in 1947 and was a lifetime member for a total of 71 years. One of the things she would always say, "Rain or Shine". She became a Gold Star Sister after her brother; Joseph was killed while stationed on the Ship, "California" in the Pacific. Cecilia also became a Gold Star Status when her son; Lawrence Dean was Missing in Action and killed in North Vietnam.
Cecilia is survived by her children, Quentin "Jim" Brownotter and Karen Red Bird of Rock Creek (Bullhead, SD), Judy Brownotter and Thomas Pheasant and Jolene Bendickson of Bear Soldier (McLaughlin, SD), Percy Brownotter Sr., Courtney and (Jerrilyn) Brownotter, Ivan Brownotter Sr., Ronald (Carol) Brownotter, Janet (Rex) Harrison, Mary Jo Taken Alive (Cletus Long Feather) all of Rock Creek (Bullhead, SD.) One adopted grandchild, Kelsey Brownotter of Bear Soldier (McLaughlin,SD). Also 41 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Brownotter Sr., sons; Lawrence D. Brownotter Sr., Clayton Brownotter Jr., Conrad Brownotter (Infant). Her father; Joachim Hairy Chin and mother; Victoria DeRockbraine. Five brothers; James, Raymond, Percy, Joseph, and Lincoln. Three sisters; Mary Louise, Irene and Grace.
