Mass of Christian Burial for Casimir LeBeau, 100, of Eagle Butte will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 1, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM, Thursday, August 31, 2017 with a Scripture Wake service at 7:00 PM at the church. Casimir passed away at his home in Eagle Butte on Friday, August 25, 2017.
Casimir LeBeau was born August 7, 1917 at the Four Bear Community to Albert and Esther (Rondell) LeBeau. He attended the St. Joseph's Catholic Indian School in Chamberlain, graduating from the 8th grade in 1932, then he enrolled at the St. Francis Catholic Indian High School and then enrolled at the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS.
Casimir enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on April 14, 1940 and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1945 at St. Louis, Missouri. After the service he started working at the Cheyenne River Sioux Agency, working as a Property Agent for the reservation which included the day school.
Casimir married Eloise Melda LaPlante on December 28, 1947 at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church in the Four Bear Community, which was located North of the Old Cheyenne Agency. In 1958 Casimir was transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Minnesota Agency in Bemidji, MN. At Bemidji he was placed in charge of the (3) Sioux reservation in Southern Minnesota; Prairie Island, Lower Sioux and Upper Sioux.
Casimir and his wife Eloise lived in Bloomington, MN from 1970 to 1994 while there they bowled in a mixed league for 24 years and were the oldest couple in the league.
Casimir retired in 1981 and remained in Bloomington, MN until 1996 when they moved back to Eagle Butte to be near family and friends.
Casimir is survived by his grandchildren Todd (Audrey) Kessler, John Carmen) Kessler, Mary Etta Kessler, Fanny (Jess) Brewer, great-grandchildren, Amber Hall, Jill Kessler, Derek Kessler, Kalee Kessler, Marshall Insley, Jordan Heideman, Chris Kessler, Cole Brewer, Shantell Brewer, Bobby Brewer, Jada Brewer. One brother Sebastian LeBeau, many great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Casimir was preceded in death by his wife Eloise Melda LeBeau, son Robert Kessler, daughter-in-law, Judith Kessler, one sister and 7 brothers, parents, Albert and Esther LeBeau.
