CARROLL F. BROCKEL was born on December 15, 1930 to John J. and Alma (Johnson) Brockel at Selby, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm 5 miles northwest of Selby and attended school at Selby where he graduated from high school in 1948. He was drafted into the armed services in 1952 stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to the family farm where he resided for 83 years. On September 14, 1956, he married Janis Aman of Mound City, SD. To this marriage was born Collin, Craig, Janel & Janita. Following their marriage, they made their home on the family farm until 2015 when they moved to Mobridge, SD.
His faith was a very important part of his life. In his childhood he attended Bethany Lutheran Church. As an adult he made a personal life-long commitment to serve his Lord and desired to see his family do the same. He served diligently in various church capacities throughout his lifetime. He was currently a member of the Family Worship Center in Mobridge, SD.

He was engaged in farming and ranching with his brother Harley for several years and thereafter with his son, Collin. He was very innovative and was a master craftsman with his hands. This combination, along with his welding abilities, brought about many "interesting inventions" throughout his farming career.
His grandchildren were very near and dear to his heart. He was their number one fan at all their activities. He invested many hours in their lives and left an eternal legacy with each one of them.
Carroll had a lifelong passion for 4-H, helping his children throughout their childhood years and volunteering as the night watchman at the annual achievement days. He enjoyed taking many camping trips and vacations which led to lots of special memories for the family.

Carroll served 21 years on the Selby Equity board of directors. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer in the mid 60's. He also enjoyed singing with the Selby Men's Chorus for many years.
In their retirement years, Carroll & Jan enjoyed spending 22 years in Arizona during the winter months where they made many lasting memories and friendships.

He is survived by his wife, Janis of 60 years from Mobridge, SD; son, Collin (Ginny) of Selby, SD; son, Craig (Lori) of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law, John Saunders of Rochester, MN; daughter, Janita (Tim) Pavelka of Holdrege, NE; grandchildren – Jerissa and Doriann Brockel; Tyson, Brady, Jaden and Shariah Brockel; Jeremiah Saunders, Jenna (Alex) Reed, and Jaclynn Saunders; Greg, Rachel, Christian, Hannah and Amanya Pavelka; sister, Arlene Burns of Hermiston, OR; brother, Harley Brockel of Selby, SD and sister-in-law, Nina Brockel of Selby, SD.
