Funeral services for Carlin Clown Sr. age 77 of Dupree will be at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Dupree Multicultural Building. Burial will be at the Dupree Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Wake services will start at 7 PM Monday at the multipurpose building. Carlin passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Medicine Wheel Village in Eagle Butte.

Carlin James Clown Sr. was born to James and Anna (Red Bird) Clown at Old Agency, SD, on March 4, 1940. Carlin went to day school in Thunder Butte, SD, till he was 6 years old. He then went to Old Cheyenne River Agency Boarding School. During the summer of his younger years he lived with Frank and Hazel Garreau. Later he joined the Air Force. He met and married Majel Bowker in 1960. He worked on the Chet Mraz Ranch and built his home in Thunder Butte. Carlin moved to Omaha, NE, in 1969 where he received his mechanics license. Shortly after they moved to Gettysburg where he worked as a mechanic. Later he moved back to Eagle Butte and worked as a butcher for Lynn's Super Value. Carlin had many jobs on Cheyenne River including Conoco and Gerald Frame Garage. In 1971 he met Virginia Kills Crow and married her. He moved to Lead and worked in the gold mines. Carlin moved back to Dupree and was employed at the Game, Fish & Parks until his passing.

Carlin loved to hunt and tell stories that were passed down to him from his Lala Amos and father Jim. Everyone knew him as "The King".

Carlin is survived by his children, Geno (Kim) Clown, Darrell Clown, Darshane (Jaydee) Bear Stops, Carlin (Fawn) Clown Jr., Jennifer Clown and Carlynn Clown, sisters, Mary Clown and Kay Clown, brother, Richard Clown, 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Clown, parents, Jim and Anna Clown, sons, Clinton Reno Clown and Geno Allan Clown, Grandchildren, Vincent LeClaire, Brandi Clown, brothers, True Clown, Stuart Clown, Roland Clown, sisters, Alma Crow, Betty Clown, Carol Clown, Pheobe Brings Plenty, Patricia Clown, grandfather, Amos Clown, uncle, Moses Clown and numerous relatives.
