Mass of Christian Burial for Carl Pritzkau age 87 of Lantry, SD will be 10:00 AM MDT Saturday, September 3, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Interment will be in then Lantry Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Friday, beginning at 5:00 PM with a scripture wake service at 7:00 PM at the church. Carl passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Eagle Butte IHS in Eagle Butte.
Carl Arthur Pritzkau was born January 9, 1929 to Carl and Ethel (Fish) Pritzkau at the family farm near Lantry, South Dakota. Carl attended Lantry School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1947.
Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Carl was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte, and a member of the American Legion.
On May 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mercedes Griffith at Dupree, South Dakota.
To this union 5 children were born: Randall Pritzkau, Dupree, SD, Tracy (George) McFarland, Pierre, SD, Mary (Joe) Higgins, Naper, NE, Ron Pritzkau, Rapid City, SD and Cara (Blake) Horstman, Winner, SD.
Carl made his living on the family farm and in 1967 started a dairy which he and his family operated until his retirement in 2003. He then enjoyed time with family and friends, watching his favorite baseball team, (St. Louis Cardinals,) reading, and playing dominoes with family and friends.
Carl is survived by his wife Mercedes of (61 years), sons, Randy and Ron, daughters, Tracy, Mary and Cara, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, sisters; Lorane McLellan of Spearfish, SD, and Lila (Randy) Wheeler of Hotchkiss, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethel Pritzkau and brother-in-law, Owen McLellan.
