Obituary

Funeral services for Calvin Hepper, age 88, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Mobridge. Visitation will be from 2-7 PM Wednesday September 2, 2015, with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Calvin passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Calvin Albert Hepper was born on September 11, 1926 in the Golden Wealth Township of Sioux County, ND.  He is the first son of eleven children born to Rudolph and Rose (Mattis) Hepper. Calvin began
farming at an early age with his father. In 1943 he bought his first tractor and leased land of his own. He was inducted into the United States Army at Fargo on December 10, 1950 and was discharged from Fort Benning, GA on December 9, 1952 as a private first class. While in the service he volunteered for paratrooper duty and was assigned to the Airborne School at Ft. Benning as an instructor. Calvin was proud of his service in the Military.  Upon his return from the service, he resumed his farming operation.

On July 31, 1953, he married Letha Lillian Moser.  They made their home in the McLaughlin area for five years on a farm northeast of McLaughlin where they farmed and began to raise their family.  In 1958, they purchased a farm southwest of Selfridge.    This was their home until 1978 when they moved to Mobridge.   Calvin and Letha owned and operated Mobridge Livestock Auction from 1976 till 1981.   Calvin was an accomplished lifelong farmer, rancher and businessman.

Being active in public service, Calvin served on the Selfridge Public School Board, Sioux County Commission, on the Sioux County ASC committee, as past commander of the Selfridge American Legion Post, and Mobridge City Council Member. He attended the First Baptist Church in Mobridge.

During his retired years, spending time with his children, grandchildren, family members and friends was an activity he enjoyed.

Calvin is survived by three sons, Dean (Vicki) Hepper of Fargo, Dale Hepper of Mandan, Steve (Lisa) Hepper of Mandan, five daughters,
Karen (Donald) Kraft of Poplar Grove, IL, Sharon Hepper of Apple
Valley, MN, Judy (Larry) Nohrenberg of Jamestown, ND, Cindy (Kent) Wientjes of Mobridge, and Susan (Kurt) Hepper-Froelich of Dickinson, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 sisters  Emma(Ray) Barchinger and Norma (Tony) Schneider and 6 brothers, Adolph (Lavern) Hepper, Willie (Sis) Hepper, Rudy (Donna) Hepper, Stan (Kathy) Hepper, Harold Hepper and Alvin Hepper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Letha in 1995, brother,
Edwin Hepper in 1930, brother, Ronnie in 2007, and grandchildren,
Tarrin Nohrenberg, Brett James Hepper, and Tracy Jo Kraft.
