Obituary
Funeral services for Bruce Mettler, age 60, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in the Eureka Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 3 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 PM. Bruce passed away Sat. Oct. 22, 2011 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.
Bruce M. Mettler was born March 27, 1951 in Eureka, SD to Reuben and Anna (Opp) Mettler. He attended country school in Petersburg Township and graduated from Eureka High School in 1969 and from Northern State College in 1974.
Bruce married Joyce Vetch March 15, 1975 in Eureka. From this union they have three children; Charlotte, Chuck, and Carla. The first year they lived in Redfield where Bruce worked for First National Bank. In 1976 he started to work for Production Credit Association in Aberdeen. In April 1977 the family moved to Selby. Bruce was the loan officer for PCA in the Selby Branch. In November 1985 the family moved to Mobridge where he became Branch Manager of Farm Credit Services. Bruce took a medical leave from work due to health reasons in September 1998.
Bruce liked baseball, playing softball, hunting, and fishing. He also collected different antiques, older firearms, and fishing tackle. Bruce did a lot of wood working and making different crafts and furniture. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of AN, Officer of Aberdeen Softball League, Selby Fire and Ambulance Departments, Selby Commercial Club, Selby Sportsmen Club, Mobridge Chamber of Commerce, and Mobridge Rotary Club.
Bruce is survived by his wife Joyce of Mobridge, SD, son Chuck (Nikki) Mettler of Watertown, SD, two daughters, Char Mettler and Carla Mettler both of Mobridge, SD, grandchildren Autumn, Jarrett, Brady, and Zander, Mother, Anna Mettler of Eureka, SD, brother, Larry Mettler of Eureka, SD, sister, Phyllis (Lee) Lutz of Watertown, SD and granddog, Mocha.
He is preceded in death by his father Reuben Mettler.
Casketbearers are Chuck Mettler, Mike Mettler, Tim Borge, Zach Vetch, Mike Gauer, Don Bremer Jr., Alvin Gerlach, and Paul Vetch III.
