Betty Jeanne Suher was born August 25, 1927, to Walter Kenneth, and Ida Mae (Wells) Mothersell at the family home south of Olney Springs, Colorado.
Twelve years later, in 1939, a baby sister, Dolores, was born to Walt and Ida. Upon unwrapping the little blanketed bundle, Jeanne remarked, "She's sure dinkie". (The name stuck). Jeanne and Dinkie grew up happily on the family homestead, and, attended grade school through high school in Olney Springs, Colorado.
On September 16, 1950, Betty Jeanne was united in marriage to Raymond Henry Suher. The newlyweds moved into the small stucco home that Raymond had built upon his return from military service in World War II.
Daughters, Barbara in 1952, and, Kathy in 1955 were born to Jeanne and Raymond. Jeanne set about seeing that her daughters' lives were busy and purposeful. Sundays always included Sunday school, church, and, the rush home to put the pot roast on the table for Dad! Sunday afternoons were always spent visiting grandparents.
As the girls were growing up, Jeanne was involved as a Sunday school teacher, Bible School leader, Girl Scout leader, and, a 4 H helper. Jeanne could be found at home sewing prom gowns, assisting with science fair projects, and, baking pies for Pep Club!
When Jeanne's daughter Barbara headed to college in 1970, so did Jeanne! She attended the Mennonite School of Nursing at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, graduating in 1971 with an L.P.N. degree. Beginning in the fall of 1971, Jeanne was employed as an L.P.N. for 32 years with Moriah Healthcare Center in Fowler, Colorado.
Betty Jeanne always had a love for dancing. When she was 50 years old, she started dance lessons that included tap, clogging, and even belly dancing. She went on to Denver with her dance group for various competitions.
In January of 1980, Jeanne's husband Raymond passed away. She continued to work at the Fowler healthcare center many more years.
It's easy to describe Betty Jeanne as "always on the go". In 1990, a trip to Germany to visit her daughter Kathy, sparked an interest in traveling. Upon Jeanne's retirement, she joined three travel clubs, and, enjoyed many trips abroad, and, stateside. However, Jeanne always set aside the holidays to visit her daughters and their families.
In 2009, Jeanne received the Quiet Disciple award from the Sunshine District in Colorado. It described her as a "multi-talented woman for all seasons of life". Her interests carried her to many volunteer projects for all ages of people. This award truly defined Jeanne as a fun loving, faith filled, humble person, and, a joy to all.
Throughout her life Jeanne remained active in her church. Her favorite activity was choir. She loved to socialize, and, to sing. She continued to participate in choir even after her cochlear implant had "digitized" her "hearing" making singing nearly impossible.
In May of 2015, Betty Jeanne was no longer able to live in the little stucco house Raymond built. Her daughter Barbara and son in law Jerry brought her to Mobridge to reside at the Golden Living Center. Jeanne was very cheerful and outgoing, and, took part in all of the activities that GLC had to offer. Her favorite was bingo. During Christmas 2015, Betty performed in the bell choir with her delighted family watching. Betty's crowning moment came when she was crowned Valentine's Day Queen at GLC this past February.
Jeanne loved yard sales, and, shopping. Most Saturdays she, and, her daughter Barbara spent time at Dady's –shopping 'til Barbara wore out!
