Betty N Litschewski was MOM to all. She has left her earthly shackles behind and will be taking care of her little ones from her place in Heaven. Betty left us on April 18, 2017, with her daughters present, on her terms, in her home.

Betty was born to Virgil and Margaret Yates in the little town of Iroquois, SD, April 27, 1929. When she was in the third grade the family moved to Mobridge, SD. Where she attended school thru high school.

At a roller skating party at the city auditorium she met the love of her life, John. They married a year later on October 27, 1947. This is when Betty's life long career took off. Their eldest son Mike was born, followed by Carol, Richard, LaVonne, Ronald and baby Patricia. Betty loved being a Mom and if you asked her about any one of her children, she would always say I have 6 WONDERFUL children. She fed and cared for many others along her life journey. The doors to her home were always open, a bed or couch always at the ready and a hot meal prepared. Money was scarce, but Mom always managed to make it feel like you had the riches of the world. She gave her entire heart to raising her children and later grandbabies) and anyone else that needed a Mom. She was the loudest and proudest Mom at any event her children were in. Many great memories of watching her squirm in the bleachers as her son's wrestled, or played football she didn't miss an event, we knew we could always look into the crowd and their Mom would be. She made bread from scratch (and necessity) and homemade cinnamon rolls. The memories of coming home from school on a Wednesday and our home was filled with the aroma of sweet deliciousness. She washed clothes in a wringer washer and hung them on the line to dry, later she would haul car loads of laundry to the laundromat and then haul the heavy wet baskets home to hang on the line. Mom relied heavily on her deep faith to raise he six "wonderful" children. She gave us all a wonderful foundation of love of God by example and discipline. She does have powerful prayers.
Mom started working when her youngest started school. She went to work for Mobridge Community Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. From the very start she worked the night shift 11 pm to 7 am for 34 years. Mom would come home in the morning and make sure we were ready for school and then before going to bed, prepare a hot lunch meal for us. We came home at noon, ate a hot lunch, somewhat quietly, and walked back to school. By the time we finished school for the day, she would be awake and ready to help with school work, go to school events, make supper and tuck us into bed before she headed out to her job.
Mom had a great sense of humor and kept us and her fellow employees always laughing and smiling. At her job, she became the self-proclaimed "Queen of Enemas". She loved a good practical joke and even pulled a few on patients. Mom allowed us the freedom to be kids, water fights in the house, raising animals in the basement, playing outside till dark, taking us to the river to swim (when she was deathly afraid of water) getting filthy dirty, allowing us to make mistakes and then teaching us the tough life lessons of how to correct them.

Mom will be greatly missed by all that were blessed enough to know her. She is joining her heavenly family circle, her parents, Virgil and Margaret Yates; Spouse John; infant son Ronald E; brother Robert Yates; infant grandbabies Gracie Jo Hoyt and Corbin Milton Gorsuch.

Survived by her six wonderful children, Mike (Mary) Litschewski of Round Rock, Texas; Carol (Brooks) Johnson of Mobridge, SD; Richard (Nancy) Litschewski of Belle Fourche, SD; LaVonne (Jeff) Dietrich of Spearfish, SD; Ron (Bev) Litschewski of Cascade, OR; and Patty (Arnie) Roebuck of Glenham, SD.
