Funeral services for Bernice Sitting Dog, 84, of McLaughlin, SD, are 11AM CT, Saturday, September 5, 2015, at the McLaughlin Blue Gym of McLaughlin. Burial will be at the McIntosh City Cemetery of McIntosh, SD, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. All night wake is Friday, with a prayer service at 7PM, at the gym. Bernice passed away on August 30, 2015, at the Golden Living Center of Mobridge, SD.
Bernice was born on October 6, 1930, to Irene Archambault and Barney Little Bear. She was raised on the Agard Ranch 20 miles south of McIntosh. She graduated in 1950 from Stephan Indian School. In 1962 she married Joel Sitting Dog and from this union seven children were born.
Bernice worked for the Harn Quilt Factory in McLaughlin for a number of years. She continued to quilt and crochet in her free time for the rest of her life.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Frank) DeRockBraine, Sherry (Terry) Dolezilek, Helen (Boise) Pariesen, Arlene Miner, Robert (Shelley) Sitting Dog, Walter (Anna) Sitting Dog, Dorothy (Chico) Baker, and Loretta Sitting Dog.
She was preceded in death by William and Irene Agard, Joel Sitting Dog, Mark Sitting Dog, Roxxi Sitting Dog, Dennis (Turk) DeRockBraine, Christopher Follett, Dorian White Twin, Jakaayla Haywood, Jaayla Jamison, Lyle Agard, Alex Little Bear Sr, Terry Proust, and Baby Girl Sanchez.
