He came home from Korea November 26, 1953 and went back to farming with his dad, brother Roy, and later son Brian in Selby, SD.

He married Deloris Klaudt of Walker, SD on May 15, 1962 in Las Vegas, NV. Celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2012. Darrell was a lifelong resident of the Selby area until October of 2014 when they moved into a new home in McIntosh to be near their children.

Darrell was member of the American Legion Unit 100 in Selby, SD for 61 years and served in the Firing Squad for over 50 years. His hobbies included collecting International tractors, attending auction sales, and hunting.
