Mass of Christian Burial for Anton E. Leibel, 95, of Mobridge will be 10 AM, Friday, October, 28, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery at 11:30 AM, MT Monday under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation starts at 3 PM Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Anton passed away October 22, 2011 at his home in Mobridge.
Tony was born February 20, 1916 to Wendelin and Elizabeth (Mitzel) Leibel of Beaver Creek, ND. When he was two the family moved west of Glencross, SD. Tony attended school in Glencross and graduated through Timber Lake High School. During the summers of his last two years of high school and after graduating from high school he worked in the Black Hills with the Civilian Conservation Corp.
On November 11, 1941 Tony married Frances Martian at Sacred Heart Church in Glencross. To this marriage seven children were born. He was then called into the military September 1942 and served in the USAAF until his discharge in November 1945. After Tony's discharge they settled on his parent's farm and remained there until July 1981 at which time they moved to their retirement home in Mobridge. Upon retiring from farming Tony continued to help on the farm during the busy season. He was also employed by the ASCS currently known as FSA for 35 years and Crop and Livestock Reporting Service for 8 years as a field man; he had also served as director for the Glencross Co-op, the TC&G Rural Water, for a period of time early in his farming career he served as county assessor. He was actively involved with the Sacred Heart Church and Cemetery in Glencross and St. Joseph's Church in Mobridge, and a member of the Mobridge American Legion, AARP, and the Moose Lodge.
During his lifetime he enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, playing cards with friends and family, he also looked forward to family gatherings throughout the year. He was forever a farmer at heart.
Tony is survived by two daughters, Jane Leibel of Mobridge and Marian (Doug) Janas of Guernsey, WY; five sons, Larry (Pam) Leibel of Post Falls, ID; Robert Leibel of Hobbs, NM; Anthony (Cathy) Leibel of Hart, TX; Merle (Renee) Leibel of Glencross, SD; and Ron (JoAnn) Leibel of Herriman, UT; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; one sister Rose Sobel, of Fort Launderdale, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, seven brothers, and one grandson.
