Obituary

Funeral services for Anthony White Mountain, 58, of McLaughlin, SD, will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at the Blue Gym in McLaughlin. Burial will be at the White Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. An all-night wake will start at 5 PM on Monday at the Blue Gym. Anthony passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. IN.
Anthony "Squashy" White Mountain was born on April 20, 1957, to Anthony Sr. and Armene (War Bonnet) White Mountain in Rapid City, SD. Anthony was the first-born he had eleven siblings Theresa, Mike, Debra, Randy, Steve, Kevin, Lonnie, Ronnie, Leroy, and Latisha. He also had one hunka brother Little Joe War Bonnet.of twelve children.
He graduated from Todd County High School at the age of 16. He was the youngest person to graduate from Todd County at the time. He then went on to attend school at Sinte Gleska College and Haskell Indian College. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from which he was honorably discharged.
In 1981 he met Charlotte West, whom he married in 1982. They had one son, Hoksila Wamblee Cinca Anthony White Mountain on August 29, 1982. He later had two more sons from Paula Claymore named Jesse White Mountain and Anthony White Mountain III.
Anthony was given the nickname "Squashy" by his grandpa, Leroy Swalley, while living in St. Louis, MO, as a baby. Anthony, Tony, or Squashy, was a very talented artist and even had one of his paintings displayed in the Minnesota capital in St. Paul. Most of his art work was Native American influenced, but he has also done many portraits throughout the years. Squashy always had a smile and warm words of encouragement for his loved ones, whom he often travelled to see. No matter what kind of business he had to do in a town, if he had a relative in the area he would always stop to share a hug and tell tales of his latest adventures. He was a happy, joyful, and loving man who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his father, Anthony Sr.; his sons, Hoksila (Memorie) White Mountain, Jesse White Mountain, and Anthony III; his grandchildren, Shanity, Kash, Hoksila Jr., Precious, Alena, Angel, Matthew, Kryston, Quentin, and Kyle White Mountain; and his siblings, Theresa White Mountain, Debra White Mountain, Kevin (Kathy) White Mountain , Lonnie (Emily) White Mountain, Ronnie White Mountain, Leroy (Jim) White Mountain, Latisha Wallace, and Little Joe War Bonnet.
He is now joined with his mother, Armene White Mountain; his brothers, Randy White Mountian, Mike White Mountain, and Steve White Mountain; as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents, in heaven.
