Obituary

A Rosary Service for Anthony P. Vetter, Jr. will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Porcupine Community Gym in Porcupine, ND. Anthony's wishes were to be cremated following the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church in Porcupine with inurnment to follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD.

Anthony Powell Vetter Jr. Mahto Sapa"Black Bear"

Anthony Powell Vetter, Jr. was born in Fort Yates, ND to Tony & Kathleen Vetter, Sr. He was raised in Porcupine, and attended Porcupine Head Start, Standing Rock Elementary School, Selfridge High School and graduated from Fort Yates Public School. He graduated in 1991, and earned the valedictorian of his class. He was baptized and received first communion and confirmation at St. James Catholic Church.

Anthony worked numerous jobs and started his working career as a BIA Firefighter for many years. From there he worked numerous jobs with SRHA maintenance worker, SR Land Management as a pesticide worker, SR Head Start as a bus driver, SRST water resources, BIA Land Buy Back program, Prairie Learning Center as a residential aid, Porcupine Creek ranch hand, MHA Good Road Recovery Center as a security guard. He also worked as a road flagger, laborer at Porcupine Community Center, worked water lines on Hwy 6, Porcupine Local District Vice Chairman, CCAP childcare provider for his sister and was always helping with the local Pow-wow celebration.

Anthony's hobbies were basketball and softball player, fisherman, gardener and loved hiking the hills. His love was planting trees, growing house plants, his rooster Sarge, his golden retriever Bailey and feeding wildlife. He also loved helping the veterans during Memorial Day, making wood crosses and placing them throughout the community. His involvement with church was important to him and his faith was strong.

Anthony lived his life with pride and dedication to his family and friends. He always offered to lend a hand, and he made sure everyone was looked after and family was his priority. The love he had for his family was always cherished. He was a proud father and grandfather; his children and grandchild were his greatest blessings.

Anthony is survived by his parents Tony & Kathleen Vetter, Sr., children; Davis Fool Bear-Vetter, Savannah (Gavin), Samantha (Michael) and grand-daughter Valerie. His brother Lee (Kelli) Vetter, Sr., sisters Kristi (Kolan) Vetter, Summer (Jake) Luger & Alexis Vetter, Adrienne Vetter, Kristen & Lindsey Tuske. God son John Luger, special niece Jada Vetter & nephew Maurice "Henry" Standing Bear. And all his other nieces and nephews he was so proud of. Extended precious family he thought of so dearly, Barbra Archambault, Pete & Beansie Red Tomahawk, Jr., Wilbur Red Tomahawk, Karen Duboise, Wilberta (Shawn) Red Tomahawk and Dave & Donna Luger. Long time friend Kerry Fool Bear and Charli Kopping.

Preceded in heaven, Grandpa Peter & Edna Red Tomahawk, Sr., Aloysius & Florence Vetter, Uncle Wilfred “Wolf” Red Tomahawk, Sr., aunts Ernestine (Verle) Huravitch, Brenda "Miss Blue" Red Tomahawk, Charlene Vetter, cousins Arvin, Wesley & Candy Huravitch, Nickcole Red Tomahawk, Norris Red Tomahawk, Joey & Lila Red Tomahawk, Kathleen Red Tomahawk & Rae Lynn Gunn. Nieces & Nephews, Baylee Vetter, Tao Standing Bear, Baby Standing Bear & Baby boy Bird. Close Friends: Neil Luger, Antoinette & Jerome Lester.
