Funeral service for Amy Nelson age 101 of Eagle Butte will be 10:00 AM MDT Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Dan Juelfs officiating. Interment will be in the Mossman Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour before services. Amy passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at Avera Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, SD.
Amy was born on November 24, 1915 in Isabel, SD to Robert and Amy (Dolphus) Pearman. Amy was raised in Armstrong County, SD on her father's (Robert Pearman) ranch. Ashe left the reservation when she was about 18 years old. At that times she left to stay with her sister in Arizona where she met her first husband Roger. Roger was in the Army and Amy worked in the ship yards as a welder during World War II. Amy lived and worked in several states on the west coast, including California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
She and her second husband, Neal Nelson also lived in Alaska. Amy and Neal were avid fishermen and loved the outdoors. They did a lot of camping. They had a dog, Lucky. Who they both loved dearly and Lucky was always with them.
Amy went to nursing school. She worked in a nursing home in Oregon and also took care of her mother-in-law.
Amy moved back to the reservation in 1999. Aunt Amy didn't have any children but she had a lot of nieces and nephews that helped take care of her in her later years.
Bob and Amy (Dolphus) Pearman were Amy's parents. Her siblings were Elaine Pearman Rousseau, baby Ina Pearman, Lawrence Pearman, Grace Pearman Ganung, Duane Pearman, Zenobia Pearman Houston, Edith Pearman Widick, Kenneth Pearman.
