Amanda was born may 7, 1919 at Hillsview, SD not far from Eureka, SD to John and Pauline (Zulauf) Walker. She grew up in the communities of Eureka, Red Elm, Faith, Bison, and Isabel. She met her future husband, Gerhardt (Shorty) Heck in Isabel where they were married May 31, 1936. In the spring of 1940, the couple purchased a farm near Isabel where they spent most of their married life. In 1969, they moved to the town of Isabel, where Amanda resided until February of 2009 when she moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Spearfish, SD.

Grandma's great joys in life were her family and her Lord, Jesus. Happiness was always in evidence when she was able to cook for her family, and this even extended to the community of Isabel where she was known for her doughnuts and sweet rolls, She was active in her church and, again, was happiest when working with the children of the church. Amanda also loved to garden, and she could always be heard singing as she did her work.

Amanda is survived by her four children, Duane (Pat) Heck of Canby, MN, Gerry Heck of Isabel, SD, Dan (Kay) Heck of Belle Fourche, SD, and Linda (Tony) Reinbold of Timber Lake, SD, daughter-in-law Jane Heck of Sioux Falls, SD, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Pauline Rogers of Sturgis, SD, Alvina Schultz of Rapid City, SD, and Esther Mae Lensing of Bismarck, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Donald Dale, and three brothers.
