Alvina Walker, 99, formerly of Selfridge, ND passed away peacefully on April 25, 2019 at Regional Health Care Center in Sturgis, SD.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. MDT on Friday, May 3, 2019 at United Church of Christ in McLaughlin, SD with Pastor Matt Shulaw presiding. Burial will follow at the Selfridge Community Cemetery in ND under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. CDT at the Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge, SD. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Alvina was born November 6, 1919, south of McLaughlin, SD to George and Martha (Moser) Metzger. She grew up on a farm west of McLaughlin and attended the Cadillac School until 8 ^th grade graduation; then she helped on the family farm. Alvina married George Walker, Jr. on June 8, 1938, at the First Baptist Church in McIntosh, SD. They lived west of Selfridge, ND on a farm; six years later they moved into Selfridge where they raised their 7 children. Alvina was a member of the First Baptist Church in McLaughlin, SD.

Alvina loved babies and children, and babysat a lot of Selfridge children, including her grandkids. She enjoyed gardening, canning, making homemade noodles and horseradish, embroidery, and crocheting afghans. She was a whiz at painting homes and businesses well into her 70s. She enjoyed her family, loved spending time with them, and looked forward to family events.

In 1995, Alvina and George moved to Sturgis, SD. In January 1997, George became a resident of the Wesleyan Care Center. Alvina moved to Rapid City, SD that following June. They celebrated their 60 ^th wedding anniversary June 8, 1998, before George passed away October 7, 1998.

Alvina is survived by her family: Theodore (Barbara) Walker, Sturgis, SD; Doreen (Jerome) Dillman, Ivins, UT; Ruby (Clint) Schimkat, Pierre, SD; Dwayne (Renae) Walker, Bismarck, ND; Pamela (Dennis) Eckroth, Mesa, AZ; Dana Walker and Brenda Mason, Sturgis, SD; and Arlynne (Melissa) Walker, Sturgis, SD. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 4 great-step-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and five sisters.
