Visitation will be held from 3PM-7PM, Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the chapel. Burial in the United Congregational Cemetery of McLaughlin, SD, under the direction of the Kesling Funeral Home. Alvina passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Alvina was born on August 9, 1932 to Henry and Lydia Geigle in Selfridge, North Dakota. She grew up on the family farm with thirteen brothers and sisters. Times were hard as for many in depression, but the Geigle family worked its way through with devotion, faith, and love.
She married Robert Olson from nearby McIntosh, S.D. and went with him to Chicago. They had three children-Robert, Lyla, and David. She worked at cleaning apartments as her husband had a job at a casket factory, played music and tended bar. The marriage did not endure.
She married Walter Tscherney of Chicago and still working hard, shared the responsibilities for the maintenance and upkeep of his family's apartment building. She was widowed in 1990.
She moved back to South Dakota to be with her aging mother in McLaughlin. This was a place she wanted to be because she could surround herself with friends old and new, take care of her mother, serve in the church, and involve herself in the Senior Center. She loved to play cards, play word games, go to dances and go to bingo. She had a giving spirit, a mischievous sense of humor and a large capacity for love.
Alvina is survived by her children, Bob Olson, Lyla Hughes, and David Olson; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
