Funeral services for Alvin Pudwill, age 86, of Pierre and formerly of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be start at 6 PM Friday at the church with a prayer service at 8 PM. Alvin passed away Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in Lennox, SD.

Alvin Pudwill was born on November 7, 1923 to John J. and Helen (Huber) Pudwill in Campbell County, SD. He married Marian Green on December 16th, 1945 in Herreid. They had four children; Saundra, Alvin Jr., Ellen, and Helen.

Alvin and his wife lived on a farm near McIntosh then moved for a few years to Herreid before moving his family to a farm near Java until the summer of 1964 when they moved to a farm near Isabel where he worked for Bennie Schuh until the fall of 1968. Alvin and his family moved back to Herreid where they ran the Fairway Store for several years and also ran the Drive Inn for 1 1/2 years. While in Herreid Alvin drove the school bus. He enjoyed the kids as well as they enjoyed him.

Alvin and his wife moved to Pierre in 1977, where they were house parents at Bridgeway. In 2005 Alvin moved to Brandon and lived with his granddaughter Rachel and family until January 2010 when he entered the Lennox Good Samaritan Center in Lennox until the time of his passing.

Alvin enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, music and playing the stuffed animal claw machines.

He is survived by his four children, Saundra (James) Mitzel of Mound City, Alvin Pudwill, Jr. (Sonny) of Pierre, Ellen Weisbeck of Herreid, SD and Helen (Lance) Frisby of Pierre, SD., 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, and 3 sisters; Alvina Pagel at the Good Samaritan in Herreid, SD, Irene (Eugene) Perman of Sacramento, CA. and Darlene Downs of Tempe, AZ. 5 Brothers-in-law; and 2 sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marian, his parents John and Helen, 2 brothers; Wilmer and Alton "Tony", 2 sisters Hilda and Irna, 1 great grandson Tyler Weidrich, 1 grandson James Schick.

Casketbearers are Marty Mitzel, Wade Mitzel, Ed Mitzel, Robert Weisbeck, Mike Weidrich, Doug Gorham, Wyatt Frisby and Rachel Corbett
