Funeral services for Althea Sitting Dog, 36, of McLaughlin, will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 5, 2024, at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. The family will process to McLaughlin from Kesling Funeral Home on Sunday at 4:00 pm and a wake service will be held at 6:00 pm. Althea passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, in McLaughlin. Kesling Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.

Althea Vanessa (Sitting Dog) Chasing Hawk was born January 27, 1988, to Robert Sitting Dog Sr. and Johnelle (Archambault) Jacobson.

Althea was raised by her grandmother, Bernice Sitting Dog and attended McIntosh Elementary School. Althea then moved to McLaughlin with her father, attending McLaughlin School. She loved to ride bike, go swimming and play with all of her cousins. During her summer months, Althea would go visit her mother in Lower Brule and stay for the summer. She also loved pow-wows.

In 2004, she met Julian White Twin and started a relationship with him. They then moved to Mandan and made their home. To this union, they had three children: Dorian, Natayia and Bethanie. Althea loved being a mother and staying home taking care of the house. In 2010, tragedy struck, and Althea lost her first-born son, Dorian.

After losing her son, she then moved back to McLaughlin. In 2011, she then met Delbert Chasing Hawk and they were married, June 12, 2012. To this union, her twins were born: Naveah and Nevehn. Her children were her everything. Althea loved to fish, camp, play cards and spend time with family and friends. After the passing of her older sister in 2016, Althea took her children into her home, Joseph and Brylee and raised them like her own. Althea will be missed by us all and will always have a special place in our hearts.
