Funeral services for Alpha Prasek, age 92, of Mound City will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Norway Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 2:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home on Thursday. Alpha passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby.

Alpha (Anderson) Prasek was born September 20, 1920 to Gerhard and Clara (Harby) Anderson on the family farm, nine miles north of Glenham in Campbell County. She grew up on this farm and attended Gjefle and Wayside rural schools. She graduated from Glenham High School as valedictorian of her class. Following high school, she attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. Alpha taught the Knudson and Hagen schools before her marriage and the Salzsiedler, Lund and Larson schools after her marriage. She also taught in Mound City and Selby.
On May 23, 1941 she married Lewis Prasek at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. They made their home on a farm five miles southwest of Mound City for the next 36 years. In 1978, they retired and moved into a new home in Selby.
Alpha was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church where she remained a member. She was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher. She was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church Women where she held several offices. She made many quilts for Lutheran World Relief, and was a 4-H club leader and a Walworth county delegate of the Area IV nutrition board.
Alpha was a member of the Selby Senior Citizens, Hobby Club and a neighborhood birthday club. She also enjoyed gardening, crafts and quilting.
Alpha is survived by two sons; Pastor Ronald (Becky) Prasek of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Steve Prasek of rural Mound City, SD, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great grandsons, four step great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren to be born who would have loved her too. She is also survived by one brother Ted (Ruth) Anderson of rural Glenham, one sister-in-law; Charlotte Anderson and her former daughter-in-law Virginia Prasek, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewis, three brothers; Palmer, Lloyd, and Calvin and two sisters; Bertha and Edith.
