Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A Scriptural Wake service will be at 7 PM, Friday at the church. Alma passed away Monday, November 19, 2018 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Alma was born on June 16, 1927 in Old Kenel, SD, to John and Martina (Left Hand) Sack. She is a proud Descendant of warrior woman, Mary Crawler. She attended schools in Old Kenel and Marty Indian Mission. While living in Old Kenel along the river there was an illness that was spread by blankets, her father who was following his Lakota tradition, helped out a sick lady. It turned out she was carrying the disease that took most of Alma's brothers and sisters. Alma ended up spending time in the Sioux San Sanitarium.
Alma married Floyd Little Bear on January 15, 1955 in Old Kenel. They made their home in the communities of Old Kenel, St. Thomas and New Kenel, New Kenel is where she has resided since. She was the Community Health Representative in Kenel for many years before retiring in 1985. While working as a CHR of Kenel, she was on call 24 hours a day to help her patients and also traveled to conferences for her community work, all while raising her family of 10.
Alma was strong in her walk with God she attended and supported anything related to her Catholic faith. She would sometimes be the only one in church along with her son Gerard. Grandma prayed for everyone she loved and cared for, her prayers is what is keeping us alive and her endless love to her family is what we all need to remember her for.
Alma was a selfless person, when the Chief Riders would ride into Kenel back in the late 1990's, she would be there with a trunk full of goodies for the riders to eat. Now her children are keeping the traditional alive. Alma loved her horses, there are a few stories about her, her horses and her spurs. She used to love to go to bingo with her late sister/best friend Maxine White Bull. She also loved her Minnesota Vikings.
Alma is survived by her children: Mary Ann (Dennis) Ellis of Tacoma, WA, Mike Little Bear of Kenel, Kevin (Lorraine) Little Bear of Ft. Yates, ND, Conrad (Sheila) Little Bear of Rapid City, Iris (Barkley) Payer of Winnebago, NE, Gerard Little Bear of Kenel, Jeannie Little Bear of Kenel, her late sister, Lucille Harrison's children, Iris Bower of Lake Havasu, AZ, John Reilly of Vietnam, Raymond Harrison of Elko, NV, Kathryn Wiley of Lakewood, CO, George Sack of Bellingham, WA, Edith Harrison of Los Angeles, CA, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
